Everton and Tottenham are reportedly keeping tabs on Ajax teenager Charlie Setford, who could be available to sign for free as the prospect heads into the final few months of his contract.
According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League duo, as well as Borussia Dortmund and AS Roma, could all soon move to sign the England youth international with Setford free to talk to clubs in the January transfer window based on the length of his Ajax contract.
As per the report, Setford could soon make a return to England a decade after leaving for Holland at the age of seven, with the half-English half-Dutch shot-stopper regarded as one of Ajax’s most exciting talents as well as a potential star for the future.
An award-winning goalkeeper having claimed the ‘Talent of the Future’ accolade last season, Setford is a regular for Jong Ajax in the Dutch second-tier. Though despite his high reputation, the teenager is yet to make a single first-team appearance for the Amsterdam giants.

Indeed, a lack of senior football could be a driving factor for Setford to returning to England in 2023, and with Everton and Tottenham interested in signing the 18-year-old, interest certainly isn’t missing in the teenage goalkeeper.
Moreover, as per the report Setford has dreams of playing in the Premier League as well as for the England senior team, something that could well happen if the goalkeeper makes the right move next year, which actually might not entail signing for Everton or Tottenham.
Setford has to be smart over next move amid Everton & Tottenham interest

Setford is a goalkeeper with the world at his feet. A product of one of the best academies in world football with the reputation to boot, the wonderkid has the potential to become a superstar in his profession, but only if he gets the next move of his career absolutely spot on.
Whilst there will be a temptation to sign for a top English side like Everton or Tottenham, Setford could be making a mistake in signing for a big Premier League club where first-team football won’t be guaranteed for years, which is what could make a club like Dortmund a more appealing to the teenager.
