Why Everton teenager Kieran Dowell would make the perfect signing for Leeds United

The 18-year-old could leave Everton on loan next season and Leeds should ensure they’re at the front of the queue.

As many as 17 Championship clubs scored more goals than Leeds United in 2015-16.

But while a new striker is the solution for many, adding creativity is, arguably, just as important.

In terms of ‘big chances created’ Leeds were even worse, mustering 42 from their 46 matches – better than only Reading and relegated Bolton Wanderers.

Head coach (for now) Steve Evans has had to work with a shoestring budget throughout his seven-month reign, and that could continue into the summer – whoever’s in charge.

However, the loan market, in which only window-to-window deals are permitted next term, could present Leeds a solution.

And one player they could turn to Everton’s Kieran Dowell. The teenager has earned rave reviews for his displays in the Toffees’ Under-21s this past season, which peaked following a stunning long-range hat-trick against Leicester City last month.

As a result, Dowell was handed his first senior start in Sunday’s season finale against Norwich, and went on to be crowned man of the match – having been involved in two of his team’s goals.

Afterwards, the Lancastrian confessed his desire to play more frequently next season – even if it means leaving Goodison Park temporarily.

And with Whites teenager Lewis Cook said to be on Everton’s radar, perhaps the two clubs could come to an agreement.
