According to the Birmingham Mail, Chelsea defender Michael Hector is a target for Aston Villa – as well as Everton, Sunderland and West Ham United.

Hector, 24, joined Reading from non-league Thurrock in 2009, and after a total of 11 loan spells away from the Madejski Stadium, he he became a regular for the Royals during the 2014-15 season.

After three goals in 49 games, Chelsea made a shock move to land him in September 2015 – but immediately loaning him back to Reading, before again loaning him out last summer, this time to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hector, a Jamaican international, has made a total of 18 Bundesliga appearances this season, and his performances appear to have triggered interest, with the Birmingham Mail claiming that Aston Villa, Everton, Sunderland and West Ham are all keen.

All four teams will be in the market for a centre back this summer, but Hector’s quotes to Goal back in February suggest that Everton and West Ham could be best-placed to land his signature.

Hector suggested that he now thinks he is ready to play in the Premier League after a season in Germany, and intends to play in the top flight sooner rather than later – but there could be a glimmer of hope for Villa.

Hector joined a Premier League team in Chelsea, and has yet to even play a game for them, instead being loaned out and almost forgotten about by many supporters.

At this stage in his career, it’s imperative that Hector settles down and plays regularly, and a move to Villa Park could give the defender the first-team football that he may not get at Everton or West Ham – though it is naturally difficult to turn down Premier League interest when it arrives.
