Philipp Max is arguably the Bundesliga’s form man right now – no wonder Premier League duo Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are very keen.
With up to four Premier League clubs monitoring his progress, Philipp Max could not be heading into the January transfer window in better form.
FC Augsburg’s breakthrough star has been the best left-back in the Bundesliga bar none this season. Setting up his ninth goal in just 16 league appearances, Max has now broken a club record for the most assists in a single campaign – need we remind you that it is only December?
No other player in the Bundesliga has created more goals than Max this season, the 24-year-old’s set-piece wizardry and sublime delivery from the left making him one of the league’s most potent creative threats.
And Max was at it again in Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat to high-flying Schalke, creating a goal for Brazilian forward Caiuby in the second half in a Man of the Match display. As the club’s official Twitter account pointed out, this came as little surprise.
So with The Mail reporting that both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are tracking the German talent ahead of the transfer window, another starring performance may have added a few more pounds to the price-tag.
Everton in particular are desperate for a new left-back with Leighton Baines’ absence leaving Cuco Martina, a right-sided defender by trade, filling in on the opposite flanks with distinctly mixed results. Max, however, is cut from the same cloth as the masterful Baines and looks every inch his long-term successor at Goodison Park.
Tottenham too may be prepared to pay big with doubts surrounding the future of Danny Rose. Meanwhile Ben Davies, for all his qualities, simply does not possess the same level of exceptional delivery from out wide as the irrepressible Max.
Shattering a club record midway through a season, Philipp is certainly performing to the Max right now.
