Everton are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer, with fans hoping to see a number of positions strengthened ahead of their return to the Europa League.

After a promising first season under Ronald Koeman, supporters now hope to see the club sign a goalkeeper, another centre back and some more firepower in the final third, whether Romelu Lukaku leaves or not.

However, another position that could require some attention is left back, given that Leighton Baines suffered a number of injury problems over the course of the season, leaving Everton somewhat short on the left hand side of defence.

Given that Luke Garbutt hasn’t quite developed as hoped, Brendan Galloway’s loan spell at West Brom was a disaster and Bryan Oviedo was sold to Sunderland in January, another left back should be on Koeman’s radar.

Now, The Mirror claim that Everton are interested in signing Hull City’s Andrew Robertson, and he could be the perfect long-term replacement for 32-year-old Baines at Goodison Park.

Baines’ energy and attacking intent up Everton’s left hand side has been vital for many years now, with his deliveries from wide areas and set pieces has also proved crucial over the seasons.

Robertson provides all of that, as he showed with Hull this past season, and the 23-year-old Scotland international has the huge potential that could make him a key player for Everton for years to come.

Hull’s relegation to the Championship may leave them open to losing Robertson this summer, especially given that his contract with the Tigers will expire next summer – and Everton should be plotting to take advantage of that situation.

Sitting behind Baines initially may not be too appealing to Robertson, but he has proven himself as a more than capable left back in the Premier League, and with a similar skill-set to Baines, Everton must look to land Robertson as his eventual successor.
