Newcastle United youngster Freddie Woodman is a reported target for Everton.

Everton are eyeing a swoop for Newcastle United’s talented goalkeeper prospect Freddie Woodman, according to The Sun.

Newcastle should be resistant to letting the goalkeeper leave but for Everton a move would make a lot of sense.

Woodman was a key part of England’s under-20 World Cup winning squad this summer, and he would find a few familiar faces at Everton.

At the Toffees he would be reunited with under-20 teammates Ademola Lookman, Jonjoe Kenny, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Kieran Dowell.

Everton clearly already have great strength in depth in their under-23 side, and some of these are beginning to step up to the first team, with Calvert-Lewin hitting a winner in the Europa League last week.

Woodman’s acquisition would take Everton one step closer to having their own Golden Generation, and make it five of 11 starters from the final of the under-20 final against Venezuela, which saw the Newcastle defender score a penalty.

Everton recently signed talented Newcastle under-17 defender Lewis Gibson, and have young prospects like Mason Holgate and Tom Davies already in and around the first team squad.

If Newcastle cannot offer Woodman the chance to step into the first team, the chance to link up with his England colleagues at Everton could be very tempting for the youngster, and make him a particularly exciting signing on Merseyside.
