The Premier League season is now five games old and whilst it is too early in the season to be making assumptions about who will finish where or who the stars of the show will be come the end of the campaign, it is still interesting to see how the statistics are shaping up at this early stage of the season.

So which player in the Premier League is winning the most tackles so far this season?

It was a category dominated by Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante last term. His main rival was always a surprise though. Playing in a poor Aston Villa team Idrissa Gana Gueye was still looking impressive statistically.

So, considering he has move to a superior Everton side, it will be no surprise to see him topping the standings.

The Everton combatant has won 24 tackles in five appearances for Everton this season – an impressive nine more than his nearest challenger.

The rest of the top five is made up some surprises. Winger Andros Townsend for instance is something of a shock at Crystal Palace. Antonio Barragan and George Friend, who has only played four times this season, are both full-backs at Middlesbrough. Meanwhile, Sam Clucas has been a revelation in a deeper role for Hull City.

But it is Everton’s bargain summer signing who leads the way for tackles in the Premier League this season – which has proved pivotal to their great start to the campaign.
