Darron Gibson has temporarily switched his focus from Everton to the Republic of Ireland and their upcoming match against Germany.
Everton midfielder Darron Gibson has been speaking ahead of the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifying match with Germany on Tuesday.
Martin O’Neill’s side beat Gibraltar 7-0 on Saturday to maintain their 100 per cent start to Group D, but things will be considerably tougher when they face the world champions next week.
Speaking to RTE ahead of that match, the Everton midfielder said, “We’re going into the game confident and we’re going to try and get three points.
“It is (tough). But we can’t go there thinking we’re going to lose. We’re going there confident and hopefully if we do things right we’ll get a result.”
Germany slipped to a shock 2-0 defeat away to Poland this weekend, to ensure the Poles and Ireland kept hold of the top two positions in the group, but Tuesday’s hosts will be desperate not to record back-to-back defeats and Ireland will have to be at their absolute best to take anything from the game.
Gibson will surely also be hoping that two games in such quick succession for his national team will give him the match fitness he needs to kick on with Everton this season.
