According to Foot Mercato, Everton are interested in signing Mario Lemina from Southampton, but he would be a bizarre addition for the Merseyside outfit.

Lemina has shown flashes of class during his first season in England, but his form has been patchy at best.

And it is highly questionable why Everton would want to bring another inconsistent player to the club.

Everton are already stacked in midfield, and their current options are arguably superior to Lemina.

Morgan Schneiderlin may not be the most popular at Goodison Park, but he has shown his class towards the latter part of the season, and Idrissa Gueye is an excellent talent.

Everton also have the likes of Tom Davies and Beni Baningime in reserve, and although a new central midfielder could be on Everton’s shopping list this summer, that man shouldn’t be Lemina.

There is simply too much risk with signing the former Juventus man, given his erratic form.

And Everton fans would have valid reason to question the club’s ambition if Lemina was brought in this summer.
