Everton are said to be interested in snapping up Chris Smalling from Manchester United in January.

Brands made six signings during the summer transfer window, and every single one of his additions has impressed since joining.
Everton appear to have had an excellent summer, with the quality of their squad drastically improving.
But if Marco Silva’s side do go after Smalling then questions will have to be asked.
Everton already have some very solid defensive options with Yerry Mina catching the eye on debut, and Michael Keane hitting form.
Kurt Zouma has also enjoyed an excellent first few months at Everton, and even though he is only on loan, Marco Silva’s side would surely be better off going after him than Smalling.

Smalling has proven to be fairly error prone at United, and even though he does have his strengths, if Everton really want to push on and challenge for the top four they may need better.
Smalling would not even be guaranteed to start ahead of Keane, Mina or Zouma on current form.
And Everton would be better off assessing other options rather than going to sign Smalling in January.
