A report has suggested that Everton tried to sign the World Cup winner in the summer.
A report in the Daily Mail has suggested that Julian Draxler is destined to leave Wolfsburg during the January transfer window, and while his potential is likely to force some of the continent’s heavyweights to at least discuss making a bid, Everton are one team that should do everything they can to sign the World Cup winner.
The Mail reports that the Toffees attempted to land the playmaker during the summer, but with Draxler’s departure from Wolfsburg now seemingly inevitable, perhaps they will have more luck this time around.
Germany’s Julian Draxler
The Mail adds that the Bundesliga side want £30 million for the 23-year-old, which is, admittedly, a very steep price for a player who has looked well below his best this term.
However, Draxler is a player who has the ability to take Everton out of their current position where they are battling for the unofficial title of best of the rest, and elevate them towards top four contention.
And it is not like Ronald Koeman is not prepared to spend the funds available to him next month. The Sun reported earlier in the month that the Dutchman has £60 million to work with and is preparing to move for Memphis Depay, who The Sun adds is set to cost a figure that sees Manchester United recoup much of the £25 million they spent on him.
Memphis Depay
Though Depay has shown during his time in the Eredivisie that he can be a special player, he has shown little in the Premier League so signing him would arguably be as much of a gamble as signing Draxler would be.
But given the level of experience that Draxler has already gained during his career, it would arguably be a mistake for the Toffees to pursue Depay without making a move for the Germany international first.
