Everton should look to offer up James McCarthy in a deal for Leicester winger Demarai Gray.

Reports from the Daily Mail suggest that Leicester City want to sign Everton midfielder James McCarthy – and that could just aid the Toffees’ attempts to land Demarai Gray.

Everton have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney, but more additions may be needed.

Another winger with pace could transform the Everton attack, and Sky Sports reported last week that they remain interested in signing Leicester City winger Demarai Gray due to his lack of playing time with the Foxes.

Just days later, Leicester’s interest in signing McCarthy emerged in the press, and that could give Everton the ideal opportunity to pursue a swap deal for winger Gray.

Leicester have already signed Vicente Iborra to boost their midfield options alongside Danny Drinkwater and Wilfried Ndidi, but with Nampalys Mendy potentially on the chopping block, Craig Shakespeare appears to be looking for another central midfielder in McCarthy.

Often on the fringes of the Everton team under Ronald Koeman last season, McCarthy seems to be dropping even further down the pecking order with the signing of Klaassen, whilst Rooney can also play in midfield if needed.

First-team football with Leicester could be appealing, whilst the pace of wide man Gray would make him an ideal addition to the Everton front line, alongside the creativity and goals of Sandro.

Gray found himself stuck behind Marc Albrighton and Riyad Mahrez last season, and with Everton needing a winger with speed, Gray fits the bill, with a potential swap for McCarthy one way to tempt Leicester into a deal – and Everton should at least propose such a deal in the coming weeks.
