Everton’s move for Santiago Sosa has hit the rocks.
Everton’s hopes of signing River Plate midfielder Santiago Sosa have taken a major hit, after he was denied a work permit according to TyC Sports in Argentina.
Their report states that Sosa doesn’t have the necessary documentation to play in England right now, so Everton’s plan to strengthen their midfield with the 20-year-old River talent appears to be over for now.
However, the report notes that Sosa’s agents are advising Everton to strike a new deal, this time with the idea of the Toffees signing Sosa and then loaning him back to Argentina until the qualifies for a work permit.
Brighton and Hove Albion are doing just that with playmaker Alexis Mac Allister, and Everton would be wise to take the advice from Sosa’s agents.
For one, Everton have shown already that they’re not averse to such an arrangement. They signed Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru two years ago when he didn’t qualify for a work permit, and have since sent him out on loan to Anderlecht and Galatasaray.
Another reason is that they would secure Sosa’s services, as any delayed move may just allow Tottenham Hotspur to get back in with a new move themselves.
The Daily Mail recently noted that Spurs had been interested in Sosa, and Balon Latino claim that Tottenham wanted Sosa, but abandoned their interest when learning that he wouldn’t be able to play in England.
Everton’s talks to sign Sosa are still fresh, meaning they have every chance of signing him quickly before loaning him out, and any plans to wait until he can come straight into the Everton side should be abandoned, just to prevent Premier League rivals Tottenham hijacking their move.
