The Crystal Palace striker has been linked with a move to Everton this summer.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman will be desperate to bolster his attacking options this summer, following Romelu Lukaku’s exit from Goodison Park.

And according to the Daily Mail, one of Everton’s key targets is Christian Benteke, with the Dutchman thought to be a keen admirer of the Belgian.

Whilst the Crystal Palace man is a sound performer, there will surely be plenty of Blues fans who will be slightly underwhelmed when they read reports concerning their club’s interest in him.

The Toffees are cash rich, following Lukaku’s sale, and are undoubtedly a club on the up, with an exciting future ahead of them. Attracting top-tier talents to Goodison Park will surely not prove to be an issue, especially with a manger of Koeman’s reputation at the helm.

Benteke has proven throughout his time in the English game that he is often found wanting when the going gets tough, and has never been an aggressive presser from the front, in anyway shape or form. This would make him a really strange signing for Everton, considering Koeman’s insistence on the high-press.

Since moving to Liverpool from Aston Villa in 2015, the 6ft 3in striker has scored just 27 goals in 82 outings for both the Reds and Palace combined.

Whilst he has been a success during his spells with Villa and the Eagles, his time at Anfield proved that he is not quite cut out to play for a truly elite side, and with Everton expected to mount a sustained challenge for the Champions League spots this season, he quite simply is not the calibre of striker who they should be going after.
