Everton should stick with Michael Keane rather than signing Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion

Everton are said to be looking at West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans, which would knock Michael Keane further down the pecking order.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are now in the race to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans.

Evans is said to be available for transfer this month, with West Brom looking to cash in on the centre-back.

And Sam Allardyce is looking to bring the Northern Irish international to Goodison Park.

Everton have struggled badly defensively this season, and Allardyce sees Evans as the man to improve his side’s backline.

But bringing Evans to Goodison Park may not be a particularly smart move, as Everton already have Micheal Keane.

Evans’ arrival would knock Keane even further down the pecking order, and create questions over his future.

Keane has had a difficult first six months at Everton, with his form becoming increasingly concerning.

However, there must be a question mark over whether Evans would be a massive upgrade on Keane.

Evans is considerably older than Keane, and has less potential than the former Burnley man.

There is no doubting Evans’ quality, as he has been superb for West Brom, but Keane was also excellent for Burnley and he has struggled with the step-up to playing at Goodison Park.

And it may be that Allarydce would be better focusing on getting the best out of what he has, rather than looking at other options, as Keane has proven he is a very capable Premier League defender in the past.
