Everton are reportedly among the clubs linked with the talented teenage striker.

According to a recent report from the Irish Sun, Everton are interested in signing Coventry City forward Jordan Ponticelli and given his innate talent they would be wise to make a move swiftly, warding off other possible suitors by agreeing an instant loan-back arrangement with the Sky Blues.

With the 18-year-old yet to make his debut for Coventry’s first-team, it would be foolish to put too much pressure on him from the outset. But with 27 goals scored for the club’s under-18s last season it is clear he has something special.

Everton have some of the best young players in the country coming through their ranks and the recent addition of Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic shows that Toffees manager Ronald Koeman is always looking to the future as well as the present.

For that reason he should seriously consider making a move for Ponticelli as his price-tag is only likely to go up if he starts scoring regularly in League Two next season.

To a degree Everton hold plenty of power in any negotiations, knowing that while they can offer a relatively large fee for the youngster, they do not need him now.

For that reason he could commit his long-term future to Everton but continue his development for the next year or two at Coventry, hopefully firing them back to League One in the process following their recent relegation.

Everton will make some big signings this summer but some of the smaller ones could have just as much impact in the years ahead.
