Everton should offload Schneiderlin with Beningime shining

Morgan Schneiderlin has been poor for Everton this season.

Everton’s abysmal form this season has coincided with plenty of the Toffees’ senior members failing to replicate the kind of form that had given the Goodison Park faithful reason to dream of a top-four finish in pre-season.

Defender Ashley Williams, attacker Kevin Mirallas and a whole host of new signings including Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen have failed to live up to the hype since the 2017-18 campaign began.

But French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin eclipses them all, as his enthusiasm for the Merseyside club looks to have completely evaporated.

The former Southampton ace was needlessly sent off for a second yellow card that he looked like he wanted against Lyon in the Europa League, before Sky Sports reported that the 28-year-old had been dismissed from Everton training for a lack of effort.

With the January transfer window approaching, Everton would be well advised to try and offload the 15-time France international as David Unsworth’s short tenure as interim boss has already seen a teenage sensation thrive.

Beni Baningime, 19, has shone for the Toffees since coming into the side in Unsworth’s first game in charge, featuring for 90 minutes against Chelsea and Lyon as well as appearing in the Leicester and Watford clashes.

The lofty midfielder is already showing the kind of quality Everton tried to add in the summer, boasting a calmness and patience on the ball but making it almost impossible for opponents to steal possession from his clutches.

Although the DR Congo-born ace is still in his teens and labelled as one for the future, he has shown enough talent to be a key member of Everton’s side right now and that should see Schneiderlin become expendable.

Everton bought Schneiderlin for a fee of £20million from Manchester United in January, and if they can get anything close to that fee by offloading him a year later in two months’ time then they should sign on the dotted line.

With Baningime out-performing his more experienced teammate, he is the ready-made replacement for Schneiderlin, allowing Everton to bring in funds to strengthen elsewhere by selling the latter.
