Everton have been linked with M’Baye Niang, who played for Watford on loan from AC Milan during the second half of the season.

According to reports in Football Italia and The Herfordshire Mercury, Everton are prepared to pay £15.71 million (€18m) in order to sign M’Baye Niang from AC Milan in the summer transfer window.

Niang played on loan for Watford in the second half of the season from Milan after joining the Hornets in the January transfer window.

It has been reported that the 22-year-old does not want to remain at Vicarage Road on a permanent basis, and that Everton are willing to pay the transfer fee needed to sign the youngster.

Although Niang is young and versatile – he can operate as a winger or as a forward – Everton would be wasting £15.71m if they sign the Frenchman.

Watford's M'Baye Niang scores their second goal

The former France Under-21 international scored three goals and provided two assists in 13 Serie A starts for Milan this season before his loan move to Watford in the January transfer window. The youngster scored two goals and provided two assists in 15 Premier League starts for the Hornets.

In this day and age, £15.71m is not exactly a massive transfer fee, but it would be wise of Everton to end their pursuit of Niang and look at other better and more talented players to sign in the summer.

For Everton to challenge for the Champions League places next season, they need proven players who will add to the quality of the current squad, not someone like Niang who may or may not develop in a brilliant footballer.
