Everton have been linked with West Ham United pair Winston Reid and James Collins recently.

In recent days, Everton have been linked with moves for West Ham pair Winston Reid and James Collins, and while it would hardly be a surprise if one cost significantly more, there is surely only one of the pair that the Toffees should be prioritising moving for this summer.

The Sun perhaps surprisingly suggested at the end of last month that Everton wanted Collins, and the Welshman could potentially be available for just £2 million.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported just a few days later that the Toffees were also considering making a £9 million bid for Reid.

And while the London Evening Standard has since suggested that the Hammers would not consider such an offer, Ronald Koeman should think about putting his pursuit of Collins on the back-burner and instead concentrating all of his energy on his teammate at the London Stadium.

Collins has been a reliable performer for the Irons during his two spells with the club, but he will be 34 by the time the window shuts so may not have too long left at the highest level.

Reid, on the other hand, has just turned 29 and his form over the past few years has been incredibly impressive, demonstrating both his quality as a centre-back but also as a leader, acting as vice-captain – and a move for the New Zealander would be another fantastic statement in what appears to have been a brilliant summer for the Toffees.

It appears that they will need to pay big money for Reid if they hope to stand a chance of tempting him away from the Hammers, but he is undoubtedly the kind of defender who would improve the team significantly.
