Midfielder could be set to leave Manchester United – should his old club Everton keep an eye on things?
Amidst reports that Marouane Fellaini could leave Manchester United in the summer (Sky Sports), Everton should be amongst the clubs monitoring the midfielder’s situation.
Fellaini made 177 appearances for Everton between 2008 and 2013 and often impressed with his barnstorming displays as he made the most of his physicality and made a significant contribution for the club both defensively and in an attacking sense.
Since his move to United Fellaini has stood out in some games but less so in others and has often been unable to command a regular place in the starting line-up, indicating that he may be best served by leaving Old Trafford.
It is understandable that some Everton supporters may be apprehensive about the idea of re-signing Fellaini, questioning whether the Belgian is capable of recapturing his best form and whether he is the player that the club truly need.
However, when Everton’s often shambolic performances this season are taken into account, it seems clear that the club need a player who is capable of taking a game by the scruff of the neck and who also isn’t afraid to unsettle opponents.
Securing a deal for Fellaini could prove to be difficult, and several clubs are likely to be interested in signing the 29-year-old, but if he does become available, then Everton should certainly consider making a move for him.
