Everton should make a move for Tottenham Hotspur-linked Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the January transfer window.
Sunderland manager David Moyes admitted last month that Jordan Pickford could be sold in the January transfer window.
Moyes suggested that Sunderland could be tempted to part company with the 22-year-old goalkeeper if a big offer came in.
“I hope it won’t be too difficult to resist a January offer,” the Scotsman told The Daily Mail. “But sometimes on the journey of building clubs up, these things happen.”
“I don’t want it to sound as if we want to sell Jordan,” added Moyes. “Far from it. It’s the complete opposite.
“I want to build a team and I want to build a young, new team. But there will be building blocks that have to be taken out to put other ones on as we go along.”
Pickford is one of the best young goalkeepers in the Premier League and is a key figure in the current Sunderland team.
The England Under-21 international is playing well at the moment, and one suspects that there will be offers for the youngster in the January transfer window or in the summer.
One of the offers could be from Tottenham Hotspur, who are reportedly looking at Pickford.
According to The Sun, Tottenham have put the youngster at the top of their list of candidates to replace Hugo Lloris.
It has been reported that Spurs fear that Lloris will leave at the end of the season and are looking at Pickford as a replacement.
Everton should join Tottenham in the race for Sunderland and put in a bid in the January transfer window.
The Toffees do need a young and promising goalkeeper for the long term, and Pickford is the perfect candidate.
Maarten Stekelenburg is 34 years of age, while 26-year-old Joel Robles has yet to fully convince.
With Everton aiming to establish themselves among the big boys in the Premier League in the coming years, they need a suitable goalkeeper.
Waiting until the end of the season could increase competition for Pickford, and Everton could be priced out.
