Everton manager Sam Allardyce will be looking to get the best out of his midfielders.
A lack of defensive solidity was certainly a major problem for Everton earlier in the season, but now, under the guidance of Sam Allardyce, that issue has become significantly less pertinent.
One of the major factors behind Everton’s increased resilience has been the performances of Idrissa Gueye, with the midfielder having stepped up to provide his defence with the requisite protection.
Allardyce has helped to get several members of Everton’s squad performing effectively, and he will hope to do likewise with Tom Davies.
The talented young midfielder broke into the Everton first-team last season in spectacular fashion as he produced some accomplished displays, but this season has been something of a struggle for the academy product, who has often lacked his usual spark.
There is little doubt, though, that Davies is a very talented player, with the 19-year-old capable of playing excellent passes, while he can also make a contribution defensively.
With Gueye performing so effectively, perhaps the best option for Allardyce is to deploy Davies alongside the Senegal international on a regular basis.
Gueye frequently played alongside Davies earlier in the campaign, but, with neither player in good form, the pairing didn’t work especially well.
Now, with Gueye excelling, it can help to bring the best out of Davies by giving him greater licence to push forwards and make the most of the creative attributes that he possesses.
