Everton are reportedly interested in signing Sheffield United defender Sam Graham.

Despite going through a slump in form, Everton have commendably stuck to their ethos of placing faith in their younger stars under interim boss David Unsworth.

Throughout Ronald Koeman’s era, the likes of Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Dom Calvert-Lewin thrived in the first team and now Unsworth has handed chances to Jonjoe Kenny and Beni Baningime.

The belief is that youth is the way forward at Goodison Park, and it shows in the transfer recruitment too. In recent times, Jordan Pickford, Henry Onyekuru and Ademola Lookman have all been brought to Merseyside.

Now, the Liverpool Echo claim another name could be added to that list as Sheffield United defender Sam Graham is being scouted by the Toffees’ talent spotters ahead of a potential January move.

The Toffees are keen to land teenager Graham and incorporate him into the Under-23 squad, but the Toffees must reconsider landing the defender and instead target one of his teammates.

Now a fan favourite at just 20 years of age, David Brooks showed just what a burgeoning talent he is by firing home the winner against Leeds on Friday night during the Blades’ 2-1 win Championship victory.

His first ever goal for Chris Wilder’s side, Brooks has continued to surpass expectation despite his young age and already looks more than adept at plying his trade in the Premier League.

Brooks possesses bags of pace, trickery from out wide and the desire to get into the box and score goals and it is that attacking tenacity that is currently lacking from Everton’s first team.

Yannick Bolasie remains out injured with a long-term knee injury, while Onyekuru is still on loan with Anderlecht and Aaron Lennon is struggling to recapture his previous form – a new star out wide is required to change the club’s fortunes.

Although Brooks signed a new contract at Bramall Lane earlier this month, the lure of first-team football with a club like Everton in the Premier League is more than tempting for a player in Brooks’ shoes.

With Everton’s faith in youth, Brooks can reach his fullest potential at Goodison Park if brought to Merseyside in the near future.
