Everton reportedly want Ander Herrera, but they should focus on getting Andre Gomes signed up on a permanent basis.

According to The Sun, Everton are interested in Manchester United’s Ander Herrera.

The Toffees are seemingly keen on adding Herrera – potentially available for as little as £5 million – to help bolster their chances of qualifying for the Europa League come May.

On the surface it seems like a very good idea, especially for a knock-down price, but if Everton sign any midfielder in January then it must be Andre Gomes.

The Portugal international, on a season-long loan at Goodison Park, is becoming a very big hit with the Toffees faithful and produced a brilliant performance in Saturday’s win over Brighton.

Better yet, the Barcelona-owned midfielder is only 25 years old and will surely improve significantly as he continues to adapt to life in England.

As talented as Herrera is, he turns 30 in August and there is a reason why the Red Devils are reportedly only asking for between £3 million and £5 million.

Gomes can be the Everton player that fans wanted Davy Klaassen and Morgan Schneiderlin to be, but neither really lived up to their big-money fees.

The former Valencia star, who has an £80,000-a-week contract with Barcelona [Total Sportek], won’t come cheap, but he is certainly someone who can push Everton to the next level and a permanent deal for him should be prioritised over Herrera.
