The Deportivo La Coruna player would be a great addition to Everton’s squad.

Much has been made of Everton’s need for a new quality centre-back this summer, with Phil Jagielka approaching the end of his career, and while the usual names have done the rounds the Toffees would be wise to consider a Spanish-based player enjoying a career renaissance.

Ask Derby County fans what they think of Raul Albentosa and most will speak of horror stories, but at 28 the centre-back has put his disappointing time at the Rams behind him to become one of La Liga’s most impressive defenders.

Now at Deportivo La Coruna, Albentosa is a strong and powerful defender who could form a formidable partnership at Goodison Park with Ashley Williams.

Six years younger than Jagielka, and with a point to prove after his previous spell in England, a move for Albentosa could be a masterstroke from Everton boss Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman knows what it takes to be a quality defender and if he has been paying close attention to the Deportivo star he will know the man is exactly what Everton need for the upcoming campaign and beyond.

Given the price it could take to sign some of potential alternatives, a move for Albentosa could also save Everton millions without scrimping on quality.
