Everton boss Ronald Koeman may need to strengthen his defence in January.

Whilst Everton’s lack of goals will be a major concern for manager Ronald Koeman, but he must also look to resolve some of his defensive issues after a disappointing start to the season.

With four defeats in seven Premier League games, Everton haven’t quite lived up to their pre-season billing, as their stock was high after splashing the cash on players such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Just four goals scored in seven Premier League games has marked a torrid start in front of goal for Everton, but with 12 goals conceded, only Crystal Palace and West Ham United have leaked more this term.

Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka are emerging as concerns for Koeman given that they are into their mid-30’s and are seemingly struggling to perform consistently in the Premier League, meaning a new centre back may be needed in January.

One player who could fit the bill is Koeman’s fellow Dutchman Daley Blind, who is attracting interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahce ahead of the January transfer window (The Daily Mail).

Blind, 27, started the season as United’s first-choice left back, but has featured just once in the Premier League since the closure of the summer transfer window, and that was as a 90^th minute substitute in the win over Southampton last month.

The Dutchman may not be too happy with a bit-part role at Old Trafford, and United face a decision given that Blind is in the final year of his contract, though they can exercise a one-year option on the deal.

Given that Koeman wanted a left-footed defender who can play at centre back at left back, Blind fits the bill perfectly, and Everton should look to tempt United into a deal in January as they weigh up his contract situation.

Everton have raided United twice in 2017 to sign Morgan Schneiderlin and Wayne Rooney, and with a need for reinforcements and Blind’s bit-part role under Jose Mourinho, the Toffees should seek another deal in January.
