Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Ever Banega recently, but perhaps Everton should be muscling in on the Argentine midfielder.

As reported by the Sun, new Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants a reunion with Ever Banega this summer after the pair worked together at Valencia and during a very successful spell at Sevilla.

The 29-year-old is known well by Emery, who won back to back Europa League titles with Banega as his midfield lynchpin, and the Spaniard is apparently open to bringing him to north London ahead of the 2018/19 season.

That said, the Gunners are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Lucas Torreira of Sampdoria, with their president claiming a deal has been struck as reported by Goal, which certainly diminshes the need for Arsenal to go after Banega, which ought to spark Everton into life.

Everton lacked creativity last season under Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce, and often the system was all wrong as some players looked uncomfortable in alien positions.

The Toffees should look to sign Banega and pair him alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye in the engine room to provide, potentially, one of the division’s most complementary midfield pairings.

Banega’s playmaking abilities from deep, coupled with Gueye’s energy and eagerness to do the dirty work could go hand in hand. With Wayne Rooney likely to end his second Goodison Park stint in favour of an MLS adventure, Gylfi Sigurdsson could then be moved back central as the most advanced midfielder – undoubtedly his best position.

The move really would make sense, and Silva should definitely consider him to give his team a nice balance going into the new season – especially with Arsenal more likely to sign Torreira at this stage.
