Everton need goal-scorers and the former Manchester City man is certainly that.
Everton’s failure to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku is growing more obvious by the week, and the January transfer window cannot come soon enough for Toffees boss Ronald Koeman.
It remains to be seen if the Dutchman will still be in charge at Goodison Park then but, assuming he is, the Everton manager would be wise to go all out in a bid to bring Edin Dzeko back to the Premier League.
It would be a difficult deal to pull off, with the Bosnian international scoring for fun at AS Roma, with eight goals in eight appearances this season and 57 in 98 since he moved to Serie A.
That is an outstanding record and prove, if it was needed, that Dzeko is far more important than Manchester City perceived when they cashed in him despite his 72 strikes for the Blues.
How Everton could do with a player of his talent now, and if Dzeko feels he has unfinished business in the Premier League, a move to the Toffees could suit all parties.
At 31, the forward may have one more big move in him and, while Everton cannot offer Champions League football, Dzeko is exactly the type of player that could act as the final piece of Koeman’s jig-saw and help them mount a top-four assault next season.
Everton have the money and the ambition, but do they have a chance of springing a January surprise and bringing Dzeko back for another shot at the Premier League?
