Jarrad Branthwaite admits he would ‘definitely consider’ joining PSV Eindhoven on a permanent basis after leaving Premier League outfit Everton on loan, speaking to ESPN

The Eredivisie giants brought in the former Carlisle United starlet to stop goals rather than score them. But Branthwaite’s surprisingly prolific display during Wednesday’s 3-1 KNVB Cup victory over Emmen was a reminder of his abilities in both boxes.

The 20-year-old centre-back had only ever scored three senior goals before kick off at the Phillips Stadium. Just 14 minutes later, he had taken his tally to five; a maiden career brace securing PSV a place in the quarter-finals of the Dutch cup.

Branthwaite has been a big hit in the Netherlands.

PSV had a £15 million bid rejected by Everton in January. They may still return with a new and improved offer come the summer. It remains to be seen whether the Toffees would be willing to let a player of Branthwaite’s vast potential go, but the man himself is refusing to rule out a long-term stay at the club who turned Memphis Depay, Cody Gakpo, Gini Wijnaldum and co into elite-level talents.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite open to staying at PSV Eindhoven

“Now, I’m mainly concerned with playing my games here until the end of the season,” Branthwaite explains. “I like it here. I will definitely consider staying here.”

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United, Roma and (shudder) Liverpool plan to send scouts to watch the 6ft 5ins powerhouse in action for PSV in the coming weeks. There is a lot for Premier League clubs to like about Branthwaite; his English passport and talented left foot, to name but two.

But, whatever the future holds, you can bet your house that Everton will not be entertaining any offers from Anfield.

“We would like that,” PSV coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy says when asked about keeping Branthwaite beyond his loan spell.

“He is a great talent. The boy is 20, but he has a future. He is good on the ball, can play on the left or the right of centre-back because he is two-footed. He has height and speed, so he is very complete.”
