Kasper Dolberg is an immense talent but now is not the time for the Everton-linked striker to swap the Eredivisie for the Premier League.

Ajax forward Kasper Dolberg celebrates after scoring a goal during UEFA Europa League semi-final, first leg, Ajax Amsterdam v Olympique Lyonnais (OL) on May 3, 2017 in Amsterdam.

It doesn’t take long to realise why Kasper Dolberg has been likened to another fresh-faced Scandinavian striker who made his name at the esteemed Ajax finishing school.

There’s certainly something very Ibra-esque about the way the 20-year-old Dane carries himself on the pitch. There’s a real aura of confidence, albeit quiet and assured and lacking Zlatan’s trademark quips. And Dolberg’s finishing, too, is particularly fearsome. His debut season comprised of 16 Eredivisie goals, almost each one tucked away with ice-cool precision.

No wonder, then, that so many clubs across the continent were queuing up to land the latest Ajax wonderkid. Everton were first linked back in November by The Mirror, when Dolberg’s price tag was already reaching £20 million.

He’d be worth far more since, after spearheading Ajax’s thrilling run to the Europa League final in May. And with Everton crying out for attacking reinforcements with the absence of Romelu Lukaku undermining an otherwise excellent summer transfer window, Dolberg could soon come back into their thinking.

Perhaps now is not the time though. Dolberg may be a huge talent but he’s also a young, inexperienced player – something we have been reminded of with the three-time international struggling to replicate the stunning form of last season.

The striker has started just three Eredivisie games and is without a league goal in 2017/18 – thanks in part to the return of former fans’ favourite Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to the Amsterdam ArenA from Schalke.

Clearly, Dolberg is a player Everton must keep an eye on. But it seems he’d be better off getting his head down this season free from the distraction of constant speculation.
