Everton face a ticking clock if the Premier League club are to sign Matias Vecino during the January transfer window, as Inter Milan are unlikely to grant his exit if Stefano Sensi leaves.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who report the Nerazzurri will remove Vecino from the market if Sensi departs first. Instead, Vecino will remain at the San Siro until the end of the season when the Croatian midfielder’s contract expires.
The 2021/22 campaign is highly likely to be Vecino’s last hurrah in blue-and-black after a bit-part role under Simone Inzaghi. He has featured just 16 times across all competitions so far this term and has only opened three games.

Vecino made his first start since September as one of nine changes for Inter Milan’s Coppa Italia win over Empoli. He played 65-minutes in Wednesday’s San Siro clash, which went to extra-time before Sensi scored a 104th-minute winner.
Lazio, Roma and Napoli are keeping close tabs on Vecino’s Inter Milan situation and would move for a free transfer. The Serie A rivals will likely have to battle at the end of the season if Sensi leaves in January.
Inter Milan have agreed to send Sensi on loan to Sampdoria for the remainder of the term, per Fabrizio Romano. The deal does not include any purchase clauses and is expected to go through now the Blucerchiati have appointed Marco Giampaolo as their new manager.
Everton face ticking clock to seal transfer for Inter Milan’s Vecino
Everton, then, face a ticking clock to agree terms with Inter Milan for Vecino before Sensi completes his loan transfer. Calciomercato noted at the end of December that the Toffees were on pole to sign the 30-year-old during January.

But the Blues sacking Rafa Benitez may scupper their hopes of sealing a deal. So, Everton may have to hope Sensi’s cup heroics convinced Inzaghi to shelve his Sampdoria switch.
Vecino joined Inter Milan from Fiorentina for €24m (£20m) in 2017, but Everton would seal his transfer for far less. Adding a terrific ball-playing operator to the engine room, ready for whoever replaces Benitez at the Goodison Park helm.
