Tottenham are reported to have their eye on Sunderland ace Josh Maja, The Mirror report – and after his excellent start to the season it’s easy to see why.

The latest report links Maja with a £6 million exit, a low fee due to his expiring contract.

This is a hugely frustrating situation for Sunderland, because Maja’s true worth should be double that.

Everton set the bar for a promising League One talent two years ago when they signed Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic.

The Toffees paid £11 million to sign Lookman in January 2017, a record fee for a player in England’s third tier.

Maja has scored 11 goals already this season and should be in line to break this record.

This means Sunderland risk losing Maja for a big discount, with the worst case scenario that he walks out when his contract expires next summer.

Tottenham could end up with a bargain, and Sunderland are in a difficult spot in January if Maja does not commit.
