Former Everton winger Steven Pienaar has announced his retirement.

Everton may be busy preparing for this weekend’s Premier League game against Burnley, but fans have been taking to Twitter to discuss Steven Pienaar’s retirement this evening.
Pienaar first joined Everton from Borussia Dortmund back in 2007 after initially making his name with Ajax, and he became a first-team regular under David Moyes at Goodison Park.
The South African winger hit 12 goals in 133 goals for Everton before heading to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2011, but his dismal spell in North London ultimately led to his Everton return just a year later.

Having initially returned on loan, Pienaar, went onto score 12 goals in his 96 games during his second spell with Everton before leaving again in 2016 at the end of his contract.
Pienaar ended his career with a spell at Sunderland under his former Everton boss Moyes before heading back to South Africa with Bidvest Wits, and today the 35-year-old has called time on his career.
Injury problems plagued Pienaar during his time with Everton and throughout his career, and the Toffees official Twitter account sent a message to their former wide man this evening.

Everton congratulated Pienaar on his ‘superb career’, and after wishing him the best of luck in his post-playing days, they added that they hope to see Pienaar back at Goodison Park in the near future.
Fans took to Twitter to respond, reflecting on his superb partnership with Leighton Baines down the Everton left, raving about his performance for the Toffees in the process.
