Everton sent a message to Cenk Tosun on Twitter, but it sort of backfired.
Everton’s official Twitter account has singled out Cenk Tosun for praise, but the responses didn’t go as well as the club might’ve planned.
The rarely-used Everton hitman scored twice on international duty for Turkey in Monday’s 4-0 win over Moldova in Euro 2020 qualifying.
Tosun, a £27 million signing in the January of 2018 [The Telegraph], also provided an assist in Friday’s victory away to Albania.
The former Besiktas marksman has only managed 16 minutes of Premier League football in Everton’s last four games, only netting twice all season.
When the Toffees’ official Twitter account highlighted his brace on international duty, a lot of fans – many of whom don’t even support the Goodison Park side – were asking why manager Marco Silva hasn’t been picking him.
In Silva’s defence, Everton have been playing a lot better in the current system which does not involve the Turkish ace.
Silva’s side beat Chelsea 2-0 prior to the international break, having also held Premier League title-chasing Liverpool to a goalless draw earlier this month.
As the old saying goes, if it isn’t broke then don’t fix it – and, for now, the Toffees are doing okay without their expensive striker.
