Everton have sent Brendan Galloway out on loan to Sunderland.

Sunderland today confirmed on their official website that Everton defender Brendan Galloway has joined the club on a season-long loan deal.

Galloway, 21, joined Everton from Milton Keynes Dons in the summer of 2014, and he made 19 first-team appearances during the 2015-16 season before a failed move to West Bromwich Albion last term.

The England youth international played just five times for West Brom in a dismal loan spell, and Everton will now hope that he can fare better with Sunderland their new manager Simon Grayson.

Everton’s decision to loan Galloway out again isn’t a huge surprise, as he needs regular playing time, but it may just hint that the Toffees are looking to bring in another left back this summer.

Leighton Baines has been a reliable servant for Everton, but he turns 33 in December and suffered injuries last season, whilst Bryan Oviedo was sold to Sunderland during the January transfer window.

Luke Garbutt has done little to suggest that he’ll be in first-team contention this coming season, and whilst potential signing Cuco Martina could fill in there if needed, he’s a right-footed defender – and Koeman may want a natural left-footer there.

Recent speculation from the Daily Mail suggested that Everton are keen on Corinthians left back Guilherme Arana, and he would fit the bill as a young, attacking prospect who can develop behind Baines.

Being so willing to let Galloway go leaves Everton undeniably short at left back, and may just suggest that Koeman will now prioritise signing another left back this summer, after already landing Jordan Pickford, Nathangelo Markelo, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru, Sandro Ramirez and Boris Mathis.
