Everton are reportedly keen on West Ham United’s Aaron Cresswell.
One of Everton’s main priorities this summer must be to sign a new left back, and recent speculation has linked them with a host of options.
The Toffees failed to sign a left back in the last two transfer windows despite clearly needing another option behind Leighton Baines, with the veteran struggling with injuries.
Given that Brendan Galloway and Luke Garbutt aren’t fulfilling their potential, another left back must be signed, and The Sun claimed earlier this week that Everton are eyeing a £25million swoop for Aaron Cresswell of West Ham United.
Handing the 28-year-old a return to Merseyside could be a smart move, but given that he will be 29 in December, younger options should be considered – such as his West Ham teammate Arthur Masuaku.
The Sun claim that Tottenham are lining up a £20million move for Masuaku this summer, and if true, Everton should certainly be looking to rival Spurs for his signature.
Masuaku has thrived under David Moyes, turning in a host of impressive performances having previously been in and out of the side under Slaven Bilic last season.
The DR Congo ace is only 24, and whilst the prospect of signing Masuaku – a player younger than Cresswell and coming off a much better season than the Englishman – for a cheaper price seems bizarre, Everton should certainly try their luck.
Masuaku can not only offer the attacking play of Baines at left back, but can also play on the left of midfield if needed, and that added versatility should ensure that Everton prioritise Masuaku over Cresswell as they line up a new left back this summer.
