Could Everton be closing in on a new centre-back this summer?
According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Everton are in talks over a possible move for River Plate defender Ramiro Funes Mori.
The 24-year-old Argentine has played 85 matches for his current club, and he won his first senior cap for his country back in March.
Predominantly a centre-back, Mori can also play as a left-back if required and his versatility is no doubt one of the reasons Everton manager Roberto Martinez is said to be interested.
Mori is also a goal-threat, having scored eight times and set up two more for River Plate, and he is said to have a £5.5million price-tag.
With Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz leaving Goodison Park this summer the Echo claims Martinez sees Mori as the perfect candidate to put pressure on his current centre-back pairing of John Stones and Phil Jagielka.
Considering the inflated transfer fees in football these days, if Everton could bring in Mori for £5.5million it would represent good business considering his age, his talent at the back and his potential to improve.
