Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Everton wanted to sign Luka Jovic from Real Madrid on the final day of the January transfer window.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on the social networking site that Everton made approaches to Spanish and European giants Madrid for Jovic on January transfer deadline day.
However, the La Liga club turned down Everton’s approaches for the 24-year-old Serbia international striker.
Luka Jovic would have been good for Everton
In our view, Jovic would have been a good signing for Everton on loan until the end of the season.
Yes, the 24-year-old striker is not having the best of times at Madrid, but that the La Liga powerhouse signed him in the first place shows how highly they rate(d) him.
You do not get to turn out for arguably the biggest club in the world if you are not good.

Former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Adi Hutter, now at Borussia Monchengladbach, described Jovic as “a world-class striker who brings extraordinary ability” in February 2021, as quoted in ManagingMadrid.
So, in our opinion, Jovic would have been a decent signing for Everton on a loan deal.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the best striker at Everton at the moment, but the Englishman has only just returned from injury.
New Everton manager Frank Lampard needs options in attack, especially as the Toffees could get sucked into a Premier League relegation battle
