Allan has confirmed on Instagram that he has left Everton to join Al-Wahda in the United Arab Emirates after a poor two-year spell – prompting reaction from Tottenham man Richarlison, and Everton duo Yerry Mina and Joao Virginia.
The 31-year-old midfielder joined Everton back in 2020 for a fee believed to be north of £20million from Napoli. He made an excellent start with Rafa Benitez at the helm, having reunited with the Spaniard after their time in Naples.
But Benitez left. Allan’s form began to decline and after two years at Everton, he only managed 57 appearances for the club – failing to score a single goal and laying on just three assists. Everton have brought in two new midfielders.
Indeed, Amadou Onana was bought from Lille for an expensive figure above £30million. Idrissa Gueye has returned from PSG. It meant Allan, who was struggling for game time anyway, has been shunted down the Everton rankings.
So, Allan has decided to leave – outside of the transfer window. It has seen him move to the Middle East, with Al-Wahda. He links up with manager Henk Ten Cate and ex-Leicester star Adrien Silva. Allan posted on Instagram.
Richarlison and Everton reaction as Allan confirms he has left
It is a shame. An exciting signing when Everton brought him in, given he clocked up 212 appearances for a club like Napoli. While he suited Benitez, Benitez did not suit Everton. He proves to be another expensive waste of cash.
The midfielder is now likely to spend the final third of his career in the Middle East, signing a contract until the summer of 2024. Among those to react were new Tottenham man Richarlison, who posted a couple of emojis on Allan’s Insta.
Along with Richarlison, out-on-loan Everton goalkeeper Virginia said “good luck brother” while Mina sent him three blue hearts. He could make his debut for his new side as early as Sunday, an away game against Al Bataeh.
