Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has sent a message to Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles on Twitter, as his spot kick helped the Gunners knock Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup.

The fourth round of the Carabao Cup between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield on Thursday evening ended goalless after normal time.

The Gunners then won the penalty shootout 5-4 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Maitland-Niles was one of the Arsenal players who found the net from the spot, as the 23-year-old – who can also operate as a full-back or wring-back – scored with a very cool penalty.

Everton winger Bolasie was following the match, and he was delighted to see the 23-year-old help knock Merseyside rivals Liverpool out of the competition.

Everton are still in the Carabao Cup

Liverpool may no longer be in the Carabao Cup this season, but their Merseyside rivals Everton certainly are.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side won 4-1 against West Ham United at Goodison Park in the fourth round on Wednesday evening and will face Manchester United in the quarter-finals.

The Toffees will fancy their chances of winning against their Premier League rivals.
