Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has sent a message to Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk on Twitter.

Liverpool have announced on their official website that the former Celtic star will ‘undergo surgery on the knee injury’ that he sustained against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

The Netherlands international was at the end of a bad challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the opening minutes of the Premier League game and had to be taken off.

According to The Guardian, Van Dijk is ‘facing several months on the sidelines’ and could miss the rest of the season.

Bolasie has wished Van Dijk a speedy recovery on Twitter, as shown below.

Blow for Liverpool in title race

Van Dijk has been superb for Liverpool since he joined from Southampton. The Dutchman has been a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s side winning the Champions League and the Premier League over the past two seasons.

True, the Reds still have a strong squad, but defensively they have now become weaker, and that could have an adverse affect on their chances of winning the Premier League title again this season.
