We rate Everton’s players’ performances from their game against Chelsea last night.
Tim Howard – 7
Roberto Martinez’s decision to bring Tim Howard in for Joel Robles may have been a slightly controversial one, but the American goalkeeper showed exactly why his manager had such faith in him. Howard pulled off a number of excellent saves for Everton and this was evidence as to why he’s still the first choice.
Seamus Coleman – 6
A solid if unspectacular game from the right-back. His partnership with Aaron Lennon showed signs of being a threatening one.
Phil Jagielka – 6
Jagielka was his usual reliable self against Chelsea, even if he wasn’t quite at the top of his game.
John Stones – 8
His performances continue to belie his years. The England international looks one of the finest defenders in the country and Everton will feel very grateful to have him.
Byran Oviedo – 7
The Costa Rican is a very capable player in a number of positions and it is testament to his ability that Leighton Baines’ absence is not being felt too keenly.
Muhamed Besic – 6
Combative as ever, Besic may not have been the most notable Everton player, but he still put in a good showing until he was substituted.
Gareth Barry – 4
His red-card was rather needless and it ultimately cost his side. Barry hasn’t been on good form of late and this was another poor performance.
Aaron Lennon – 7
Everton’s most dangerous attacking player. His pace was a constant threat and if he continues to put in performances of this quality, he should be a big hit at Goodison Park.
Ross Barkley – 5
He just can’t seem to get back to his best. Usually so destructive, Barkley was virtually anonymous last night and his form must be a concern.
Steven Naismith – 6
The Scot may not have had his finest game, but he still put in a good showing for the Toffees and can feel relatively pleased with his performance.
Romelu Lukaku – 5
His struggle for goalscoring form continues. The powerful target-man missed a sitter, even if he did bring out a brilliant save from Petr Cech, and he will be wondering what more he can do to impress.
Subs:
James McCarthy – 7
His energy was key in Everton’s second half performance. A good display.
Kevin Mirallas and Darron Gibson were brought on, but too late to be graded.
