10-man Everton lost 9-8 on penalties in Tuesday night’s third round FA Cup replay at West Ham United following a thrilling 2-2 draw after extra-time.
Joel Robles 8.5/10 – Silenced some his recent critics with a couple of excellent second-half saves to help send the match to extra-time. Missed the final spot-kick but few should hold that against him after his overall contribution.
Seamus Coleman 7/10 – Pressed forward throughout the night, while also proving stout in defence. It’s obvious why the likes of Manchester United are reportedly courting his signature.
John Stones 6/10 – Almost gifted the home side the lead in the first-half, before being beaten on Enner Valencia’s 51st-minute opener. Not a match he will want to remember.
Phil Jagielka 7.5/10 – A solid outing from the Blues skipper, who dealt with West Ham’s imposing strike-force in uncompromising fashion.
Leighton Baines 7/10 – Was forced to sit back and defend for long spells of the game but proved a real threat with his set piece deliveries.
Muhamed Besic 6/10 – Couldn’t provide the same kind of impact he has in recent games and was taken off with his side looking for an equaliser.
Gareth Barry 6.5/10 – Soaked up pressure in front of the back-four with another improved outing. After a tough start to the season, the ex-England international looks to be finding his feet again.
Aiden McGeady 5/10 – Struggled to get into the game and then put his side in a tight spot after being sent off for a second bookable offence in the second-half.
Ross Barkley 5/10 – Made a few decent runs in the first-half but wasn’t at his best on the night. Replaced in the 67th-minute after failing to produce.
Steven Naismith 7/10 – Looks to be Everton’s most important contributor at present, with his tireless running and intelligent movement helping makes things happen. Did miss in the shootout, though.
Romelu Lukaku 7/10 – Still to rediscover last season’s form but made a couple of vital contributions, winning the free-kick for Mirallas’ late equaliser and netting the second in extra-time.
SUBSTITUTES
Kevin Mirallas (Besic 67) 8/10 – Changed the game with his introduction, scoring a brilliant equalising free-kick eight minutes before the end, before coming up with a superb assist for Lukaku’s strike.
Bryan Oviedo (Barkey 67) 7/10 – His fresh legs made a big difference with Everton down to 10 men. Might have been an idea for Martinez to have had him on from the start, fitness providing.
