Anthony Gordon has admitted that he has been left ‘very surprised’ by what Frank Lampard has brought to Everton from a tactical standpoint, as he told Sky Sports News.
The Everton winger added that Lampard has been ‘very impressive’ during the short period he has worked under the Chelsea legend.
It has been a mixed start by the former midfielder, with wins against the likes of Brentford and Leeds.
But, they have also faltered at places like Newcastle United, including most recently at home to Manchester City, although they were robbed of a point after Rodri wasn’t punished for a handball inside the penalty area.
Nonetheless, Gordon shared an insight into Lampard on the training field and what he has made of his new boss.
“He has surprised me how much he knows tactically,” said Gordon. “Like really impressive.
“A lot of the foreign managers are renowned for being very good tactically, but he really surprised me and I think he is right up there.
“I think in the games this season, even the ones that we have lost, I think he has put us in positions to win us the game. We as players have come up short.”

Even though it is unlikely, given the quality in Everton’s ranks and there are three worse teams than them in the division, surviving relegation is the priority.
The January signings, such as Donny van de Beek, Dele Alli and Anwar El Ghazi, are yet to really motor or earn enough minutes/starts to motor.
Plus, Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t been himself since his return from injury and the quicker he gets scoring again, the better.
The next stop for Everton is a Thursday FA Cup tie against non-league Boreham Wood, which should make interesting viewing.
