Everton are interested in signing striker Paul Onuachu with the Genk target man also wanted by Southampton on deadline day.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Everton are making a late push to secure Onuachu’s signature.

It’s stated that two offers are now set to arrive on Genk’s table with Everton and Southampton fighting for his services.

The offers will allegedly be between €15million and €20million (£13million and £17.5million), and that may not be enough for Genk to sell.

The Nigerian hitman still has 18 months left on his contract and Genk seemingly aren’t in a rush to sell.

Genk sit top of the Belgian Pro League table and Onuachu will be absolutely key to their hopes of winning the title.

Who is Everton target Paul Onuachu?

Onuachu was born in Nigeria but got his big break in Europe with Midtjylland over in Denmark.

After just 12 goals in his first 65 games, Onuachu exploded with 62 goals in his final 116 appearances.

Onuachu earned a big move to Belgium in 2019, joining Genk – and that move has been an absolute masterstroke.

Onuachu has smashed a ridiculous 85 goals in 130 games for Genk, including 35 goals during the 2020-21 season.

17 goals in 22 games this term is hugely impressive and the 28-year-old could now land a life-changing switch to the Premier League.

Everton need goals in their battle to stay in the Premier League and Onuachu may well fit the bill for the Toffees.

A key factor here is that Onuachu stands at a gigantic 6ft 7in tall and is an enormous threat in the air.

New boss Sean Dyche worked with a number of target men at Burnley, with his style of getting the ball into the box working well for the likes of Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes.

We’re not trying to put Dyche in a box here, but going for a huge striker just hours after appointing Dyche makes sense for Everton and Onuachu could be ideal for the new Toffees manager.
