Yannick Bolasie has told Het Nieuwsblad that he is ‘finally better’ than former Everton team-mate Romelu Lukaku after doing something that the Belgian striker never did on Sunday.

Bolasie, who left Everton to join Anderlecht on loan last month, scored twice against bitter rivals Club Brugge this past weekend to make it three goals in two games.

Lukaku, who joined Manchester United from the Toffees in 2017, began his career with Anderlecht but never scored more than once in the same game against their Belgian rivals.

And the 29-year-old winger has revealed that he joked about this during a telephone conversation with Lukaku himself after the game.

“I sat on the phone with him for an hour on Saturday,” he told Het Nieuwsblad.

“Honestly, it did cause some pressure, knowing that you [Anderlecht] have not lost here to Club Brugge for so long.

“He never scored twice against Club Brugge in a match, you say? Finally, I am better than him at something.”

This is a good chance for Bolasie to resurrect his career.

He might not, and probably doesn’t, have much of a future at Everton, but a successful spell in Belgium may open other doors when he returns to Goodison Park this summer.

A failed stint in the Championship with Aston Villa means another spell in the second tier probably isn’t a favourable option for him, but if he continues to dazzle for Anderlecht then he won’t be short of suitors.
