Everton’s Mason Holgate is distraught over West Bromwich Albion’s playoff semi-final defeat.

Everton-owned Mason Holgate has admitted on Instagram that he is ‘heartbroken’ by West Bromwich Albion’s failure to reach the playoff final.

Aston Villa beat West Brom on penalties at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night to move into the showpiece at Wembley on May 27.

The Baggies missed their first two spot-kicks, with the Everton loanee seeing his effort saved by Jed Steer.

The 22-year-old has spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan in the West Midlands, and the tone of his Instagram message indicates that he’s going back to the Toffees.

It’ll be interesting to see if Everton boss Marco Silva has any future plans for the right-back.

The Echo previously reported last month that the Portuguese manager would indeed give him another chance to impress and, with Seamus Coleman having quite a poor season, it definitely makes sense.

The England Under-21 international has made 38 Premier League appearances for the Goodison Park club.
