Everton are considering Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager – and he has one big fan at Goodison Park in Kevin Thelwell.

The Toffees parted ways with Frank Lampard on Monday evening, finally confirming his exit after hours of speculation.

Saturday’s defeat at West Ham United proved to be the end for Lampard, who lasted less than a year at Goodison Park.

So who next?

Everton have tried experience in Sam Allardyce, an up-and-comer in Marco Silva, Champions League winners in Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez. None of it has worked.

Everton need some stability; they can’t just keep on going through manager after manager and some may want Farhad Moshiri to stay out of this appointment.

Director football Kevin Thelwell will have a number of names in mind and one of them may well be Nuno Espirito Santo.

Everton linked with Nuno Espirito Santo move

90Min claim that Nuno is among the candidates Everton are considering as a replacement for Lampard.

Nuno, 48, is currently managing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad but is fairly regularly linked with a Premier League return.

Nuno didn’t exactly fare well at Tottenham Hotspur but he did a great job in four years at Wolves, guiding them from the Championship all the way in to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Getting him out of a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia won’t be easy but Nuno has a key connection at Everton – he worked closely with Toffees director of football Thelwell at Wolves.

That understanding of how each other work could be vital, especially with Everton seeking some kind of stability on and off the pitch.

Thelwell spoke highly of Nuno in 2020, branding him a ‘top head coach’ whilst speaking to The Athletic.

Thelwell called Nuno’s work at Wolves ‘incredible’ and by the time Nuno left, Thelwell had already moved on to the New York Red Bulls.

Everton eyeing Nuno smacks of Thelwell fancying a reunion with a coach he rates very highly, and whilst Everton fans may not find it all that exciting, stability and synergy are what Everton want – and Nuno reuniting with Thelwell could provide those factors.
