Everton are now set to rebuff a number of clubs interested in signing Lewis Warrington on loan after the teenager impressed boss Frank Lampard with his pre-season performances.

That’s according to iNews, who report the Toffees have put a block on any potential route away from Goodison Park. Warrington should now spend, at least, the first half of the new season working with Lampard at Finch Farm, before revisiting his situation during January.

Everton have fielded an array of approaches from clubs interested in exploring a loan deal for Warrington this summer. The 19-year-old caught the attention of talent spotters while on loan to Tranmere Rovers last season, having joined the League Two outfit in the winter.

Warrington seizes chance to impress Lampard as Everton block loan interest

Tranmere sealed a six-month transfer for Warrington to move to Prenton Park on deadline day this January. Everton sought to secure their academy product a chance to earn regular senior minutes, with the central midfielder yet to feature in a first-team side at Goodison.

Warrington enjoyed 17 appearances in the fourth-tier while with Micky Mellon’s men, and offered one goal plus two assists. The Birkenhead-born prospect also started in all 17 of his games with the Super White Army and played the full 90 minutes on 14 occasions, as well.

Impressing in League Two also afforded Warrington an opportunity to catch Lampard’s eye in pre-season after returning to Everton and signing a new contract in May. He enjoyed his non-competitive Toffees debut during a 45 minute appearance against Arsenal in the USA.

Warrington also enjoyed a cameo against Blackpool and impressed Lampard for Everton to now block loan interest. So, the 5 ft 11 talent Tranmere’s sporting director James Vaughan told The Athletic has ‘massive potential’ has a sustained chance to show his tenacious skill.
