Everton next manager odds: Two managers cut again – one obvious, one a huge shock

Everton sacked manager Ronald Koeman last month – and the search is on for a replacement.

Everton confirmed last month that manager Ronald Koeman has been relieved of his duties after a dreadful start to the season.

The Toffees went into the season full of hope and optimism, having splashed the cash over the summer on players such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, whilst they also brought Wayne Rooney back to the club.

However, with five defeats in the first nine Premier League games, and just one point taken from the first three Europa League outings, Everton endured a disastrous start to the campaign – and Koeman paid with his job.

Caretaker boss David Unsworth has taken charge since his exit and claimed a first win before the international break with a 3-2 victory over Watford, and then claimed a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Bookmakers such as Sky Bet have been pricing up odds for Everton’s new manager, but there has only been considerable movement on two managers over the last 24 hours.

Watford boss Marco Silva remains the favourite tonight, over a week since Everton launched an approach for the 40-year-old, which was swiftly rejected by the Hornets.

The Portuguese boss only became Watford boss over the summer, but a strong start to the season has seen his stock grow, and Everton have been keen to take the former Hull manager to Goodison Park.

Silva has been a little non-committal so far, and his odds have been cut again tonight, from Evens on Monday to 4/7 tonight, becoming the odds-on favourite for the job as Watford fight to keep him at Vicarage Road.

The only other manager whose odds have been cut today is Louis van Gaal, whose bizarre link with the Everton job continues after a flurry of bets on Monday.

The Dutchman, 66, has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in 2016, and few could have expected to see him return to the Premier League – and yet his odds have again been cut down to 7/2 this evening.

Van Gaal was a known arch-nemesis of former Everton boss Ronald Koeman from their time together at Ajax, and Van Gaal replacing Koeman would be quite the story. Whilst some fans may write off Van Gaal, the strength of the links in the last 24 hours mean he is a name to keep an eye on, as Everton’s search for a new manager approaches a month.
